CLEAR (Coastal Litter Elimination and Reduction)

Human Rights Global House, in alignment with the United Nations, recognizes that the protection of human rights is intrinsically linked to environmental preservation, which is essential for the full realization of human life and dignity.

Through its CLEAR Program, the organization is committed to integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 6, 12, 13, 14, and 15 into its human rights promotion strategies, thereby actively contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This commitment includes fostering education grounded in human values, advocating for the responsible use of water, preventing the pollution of marine and freshwater ecosystems, encouraging sustainable consumption practices that minimize waste, and ensuring the protection and quality of underwater resources.

Human Rights Global House calls upon civil society organizations to incorporate these priorities into their agendas, recognizing that the defense of the environment is an essential component of the defense of human rights.

Under the leadership of Armando Milou, Coordinator of Human Rights Global House, an annual call for applications will be launched, inviting volunteers from around the world to apply for participation in the organization’s summer volunteer program. Each year, the program will be held in a different location across Europe. For further information, please contact us at info@humanrightsglobalhouse.org.

FIRST YEAR: SUMMER 2025. Sipan/Croatian coast.

Program Overview:

The CLEAR initiative aims to engage local communities, tourists, and environmental enthusiasts in a collaborative effort to clean up the beautiful shores of the island of Šipan, Croatia, while promoting eco-tourism and awareness about pollution. By uniting efforts to eliminate coastal and nearby underwater litter, this program seeks to enhance the island’s natural beauty and protect its marine life.

Key Components:

  1. Community Clean-Up Days:

Daily clean-up events will be organized throughout the summer, inviting residents and visitors to join forces in removing litter from beaches, coves, and coastal pathways. Participants will be provided with gloves and bags, and given handling instruction.

  1. Educational Workshops:

Interactive workshops will be held to educate participants about the impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. Topics will include recycling, sustainable tourism practices, and the importance of preserving biodiversity. Local experts and environmentalists will share their insights and experiences.

  1. Eco-Tourism Activities:

To promote sustainable tourism, guided eco-tours will showcase the island’s natural beauty and unique ecosystems. Activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking will highlight the importance of protecting these environments while encouraging participants to appreciate and enjoy them responsibly.

  1. Plastic Art Installations:

Local artists will be invited to create installations using collected plastic waste, turning trash into art. These installations will be displayed around the island, sparking conversations about plastic pollution and inspiring visitors to take action.

  1. Partnerships with Local Businesses:

Collaborations with local restaurants, hotels, and shops will encourage sustainable practices, such as minimizing plastic use and promoting eco-friendly products.

  1. Impact Tracking:

Throughout the summer, the program will track the amount of litter collected and analyze the types of waste found. This data will be shared with the community and used to develop ongoing strategies for waste reduction.

The CLEAR program on the island of Šipan in Summer 2025 will not only beautify the coastline but also foster a sense of community and responsibility towards the environment. By combining education, action, and eco-tourism, CLEAR aims to leave a lasting positive impact on both the island and its visitors.
